Scare on the Mountain

In 1950 when I was twelve years old,  my little ‘gang’ and I played in the hills all summer long.   We had heard of a cave in the hill across the creek back of our homes and one day decided to go looking for that cave.  We were far back in the mountains and came up on a “rock cliff” that jutted out above us.  We were looking for a way to climb up when I noticed someone standing on the edge of the rock looking down at us.

I thought it was a hunter and was trying to see who it was when I noticed the long dark hair that covered the being looking back at me.  In remembering–he was some six feet tall, had hair about six inches long covering most of his body,  I could see some brown skin on his chest and part of his legs.  Could not see his face as it was shaded.  His arms were longer than a humans and he held a wooden club or stick in his hand. He stood looking down at us for about fifteen seconds, turned and walked away out of sight.  Only one of the others saw him too,  we looked at each other for a second, screamed and tore the hill up running back down with the other children following suit, not knowing what they were running from.  At home I told my grandma that we had seen a gorilla on the hill and she told me not to talk foolish that people would think I was crazy!!   It was many years later while watching a report about “Bigfoot” that I realized what I had seen on that mountain.   I contacted BFRO (Bigfoot Research Organization) gave my story, answered their questions and was considered lucky to actually have seen a Bigfoot.  In the BFRO website there are many other stories of people who have seen one in Martin County and counties surrounding Martin.  Those mountains held wonders to behold for me!

I tried to get the ‘kids’ to go back up but no one would take me up on it!!
“uh-uh”, they said. After I was an adult and learned what I had seen I felt very honored that he made himself known. BFRO said he was probably a young male. Said the Bigfoot are attracted to children, so I imagine that is what caught his attention. He probably watched us as we climbed up to the cliff.

The “Bigfoot” mountain is in Beauty, Kentucky. My old homeplace and others in my area are not there anymore due to flooding. If you go into the BFRO website you will find other stories like mine. http://www.BFRO.net. There have been several sightings in Kentucky. I hope the tops of the mountains are still there. I have not been back to Beauty in over 40 years and I have heard it is not the same as it was years back.
